The end is nigh

For many Autumn brings good and bad things. Some people love the vibrant colours of fall and the wrapping up in layers. Others see that the football season is gaining momentum and is gong very well or not so good. However those who love the summer  sports now is time to say farewell. The summer season of sport is ending either on a high or low depending on sport and club.

A common theme of the Summer is the rain and the amount there has been to disrupt sports like cricket and especially speedway. With over a 100 meetings called off through the leagues it is surprising why fans want more action and feel they have missed out on the 2012 season.

Rivalries are known to cause high tensions that have maybe from time to time over boiled with fan v fan, rider v rider and even rider v fan. But now after all the tensions high and low, good and bad the final is near and far.

Swindon Robins and Poole Pirates, the two teams that have dominated the elite league sponsored by sky sports have now become the two final teams battling out for the chance to become champions of 2012. Poole fans are hoping to do a back to back season and robin fans are hoping to take that title off the buccaneering pirates.

As mentioned the weather has played a crucial part in what has happened in the season. The first leg of the final at Swindon has taken part, but the second leg has not yet gone ahead. The saying goes third time lucky and this Monday the second leg is meant to happen according to the weather. A huge fingers crossed that it does!!!!

It has been generally a mixed season for all in all sometimes ending in frustration and it seems the final has taken a turn like the rest of the 2012 season, anticipation, frustration and annoyance.

It has been a high for Chris Holder who at 25 became not just a father for the first time, but also world champion which came down to the final wire in Torun Poland, round 12 and also the ELRC (elite league riders championship) champion. Craig Cook who came in to the Belle Vue Aces sides halfway through the season became the PLRC (premier league riders championship) champion.

But other news that has come, rather sad and unfortunate is that some riders may not be able to financially continue in speedway because of lack of sponsorship money. This is sad news for fans of riders that have such a passion and fire to be an inspiration in the sport.

Although this is a double edge sword in that there are those who are passionate but there are those who whine about others due to rivalry can sometimes ruin the banter that is there between people because the banter is a serious issue. It is like a lion fighting another lion over land and lionesses!! In nature that is needed but sport and unhealthy fight and banter is not, so please take things in a light hearted nature and all in good fun.

Lets hope the final goes to plan and be a third time lucky for Swindon v Poole and he 2012 champions are revealed and that people prepare over the winter for March 2013.

Football resumes its action

August already and with the summer of 2012 being hectic with the euro’s and the Olympics, the football season has returned.

Fleetwood town are the newest team to play in the football league after winning blue square premier aka conference last season. Also York City have been promoted to the league. Hopefully they can make an impact into league two.

New boys of Southampton. Reading and West Ham returning to the premier league for the 2012/13 season, all there is to say is it will be interesting.

The big guns are coming back with Manchester City looking to retain their title and rivals Manchester united and Chelsea are looking for that not to happen and cause an upset.

But fans will be cheering their teams on this season so we shall wait and see what entertainment the new football season will occur.

All there is to say is sit back and enjoy….

Commend the guys

Last night at Belle Vue there was another rain off, disappointing I know but things like this happen we all know, but it seems to be a lot at the moment. So having withdrawal symptoms from being spoilt from the speedway world cup there was some premier league action with Ipswich witches v Somerset rebels.

So sky did their bit with the premier league. The weather was dry and with some good racing going on, everything was fine, until the rain came….

It seemed to rain from no where, although the riders agreed to carry on. Jason Doyle from Somerset was on fire, he got a paid maximum and was one of the cleanest there. Due to the rain it caused a lot of dirt into mud in a way and if you were not in front you would get very dirty indeed.

Although there was an incident between Dakota North and Claus Vissing where it turned out Claus had a suspected collarbone injury, so he did not ride for the rest of the meeting. So that is a blow.

The Aussies were there in full force, the young one like Cameron Heeps and Rohan Tungate did extremely well in the muddy and slippery conditions. But to all the lads on both teams going out there and having a good go of it and a win for Ipswich as well, seemed a good home win!!

Changes are a…..U-turn?

Today the British Speedway AGM met to discuss the rules. Might I say that it is odd to meet on a Sunday, what happened to a day of rest?

Anyway the big news from the meeting that has been in question is the 8 point rule, where a team could only have one rider with an average of 8 points. But now that rule has be scrapped.

All I can say is hooray!! What numpty in the first place decided the rule ( we all know who) has then done a U-turn and gone you know what I am wrong. Well someone had words with Sepp Blatter on how to go back on things, good advice given I think!!

However there is a committee in the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) and here is the lovely list for you:

Chairman Alex Harkess (Edinburgh)

Vice Chairman Jon Cook (Lakeside)

Elite League member Chris Van Straaten (Wolverhampton)

Premier League member George English (Newcastle)

Premier League member David Hoggart (Sheffield)

Elite League reserve member Matt Ford (Poole)

Premier League reserve member Rob Godfrey (Scunthorpe)

After all that there is something good and that is the Poole manager will again be the hope team Great Britain need with him being the team manager again.

A hope for the British then to see Neil Middleditch as the manager and to get team moral up and boosting and get some amazing riding going on. Especially if the final will be in Mallia in Sweden.

Also there are no changes in teams with the elite league and premier league. I am glad there are 10 teams again in the EL. It makes life more interesting. But for the more premier league fans there will be 14 teams and the national to be honest I have no idea over.

Finally for all of you who love to travel around the country to all the events here is some events are where they will be to tickle your fancy:

British U21 Final in Dudley

British Championship final in Wolverhampton

ELRC in Swindon

PLRC in Sheffield

PL fours in Peterborough

PL best pairs in Somerset

EL best pairs is shelved in 2012

Shelved????? That needs an explanation immediately, why on earth would you shelf something like the best pairs…. Oh well sometimes we will never know details

But we all hope you enjoy the next season, because I am excited NOW!!!! Oh bring on March please…..

The season is over…

So now to all of you, it must be obvious and somewhat known that the speedway season has come to an end. After seven months of highs and lows the season has finished for Winter.

Riders are making decisions on what to do and where to go in the leagues to stay or to change their team in the British, Swedish and the Polish leagues. They will soon enough be enjoying themselves and then will be training in the Winter to keep the capacity of fitness up from the season of 2011 so that the next season of 2012 can as just be interesting and exciting again.

Sporting review

Well it has been a while since i have looked at tumblr. A lot has happened in sporting terms since my last post.

So football has now finished domestic leagues that is. Manchester united won 19 titles above Liverpool 18. Which is a good thing in my eyes. The champions league final was amazing, in that a Manchester united vs Barcelona final. That was fun!! Even though Barca won, they were the better team and it was like Roma all over again at one point. But man u played a lot better then Rome match.

The cricket season has started and I have no idea what is going on with that or with Rugby and I could not overly care less. Mainly because I do not have a clue about either sports.

However there is speedway, there has been since oh about April. Belle Vue are doing well, so are the usual of Poole and Wolverhampton. Now some people think what is speedway (motor bike sport) which carries a lot of injuries and risks but it is entertaining to watch.

At the moment there is UK darts open, well this is in Bolton and this is amateurs against pros.

But the highlight for me is the tennis. Right now the final of french open is on. And it looks like Rafa Nadal will beat Roger Federer. Match point to win. Nadal wins his sixth french open.

There will also be in the Summer the under 21’s football. Hopefully England can do well.
